• The Harbor Beach Lions Club, for offering a free Thanksgiving dinner this year to help people who would otherwise be alone during the holiday.
• The Laker FFA Chapter, for working to help those in need within the community through its Living to Serve phone-a-thon, which will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on today and Tuesday
• Laker 50th Celebration committee members, along with churches in the Elkton, Pigeon and Bay Port area, who hosted a Thanksgiving dinner and service to help the less fortunate.
• Michigan State Representative Terry Brown of Pigeon, who recently received an Excellence in Education Award from the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning.
• Volunteers and area businesses who have continued with the Jaycees’ tradition to serve a traditional Thanksgiving feast to people who are ill or alone. The meal was served Thursday at Oswald Hall at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe.
• Arnold and Mary Ellen (Foster) Pawlitz of Sand Point, who will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary on Dec. 9, 2009.
• Nelson “Hank” and Mildred Pease of Port Hope, who will celebrate 60 years of marriage on Dec. 10, 2009.
